Basic Search
Using the CKO Onlines Basic search engine is pretty straightforward: type in search terms or keywords relating to your query, and hit the search button. Every item in the CKO Online database is classified into different fields. The basic search engine looks for your query in the following fields of every item: title, abstract and keywords. To make your search more effective, use the Advanced search.
Boolean Operators
Anytime you use the search engine, all the words you typed in should appear in the results. All words search is set by default. For example, if you search for "innovation drivers" the results will contain documents that include both words from the fields in which the engine searches. CKO Online searches require utilization of shorthand operators such as "+" (shorthand for AND) and "-" (shorthand for NOT).
Capitalization
CKo searches are not case-sensitive. All letters, regardless of how you type them, will be understood as lower case. For example, searches for "Innovation Drivers", "innovation drivers", and "InNoVaTiOn DrIvErS" will return the same results.

Enclosing the search terms with quotation marks force multiple words to be treated as a phrase. This will return all documents that have the exact phrase "innovation drivers" but it will not show a page that only has the phrase "The drivers of innovation

Advanced Search
The CKO Online Advanced Search is a precision tool that helps you get the most out of your search. In addition to the Basic Search, the Advanced Search provides date-specific querying, language filtering, author, organization, category, document types, and country searching. The Advanced Search also allows you to return 10, 25, 50 or 100 results per page.

Searching by date retrieves documents in the database according to their publication date. Users can search documents by year, month and day. |
| Search by author |
Basic Search retrieves authors who are mentioned within the documents abstract. The Advanced Search feature allows users to search specifically in the author field of every document. |

Basic Search retrieves organizations who are mentioned within the documents abstract. The Advanced Search allows users to search specifically in the organization field of every document. |
| Search by category |
Searching by category allows users to search for documents within one of the four categories in which all documents are classified. |
| Search for document types |
The CKO Online database contains various types of documents. It is possible to specify the document types you want for any query. |
| Language filtering |
Users can filter documents by their publication language. To do this, select the language you want from the drop-down menu. |
| Search by country |
This feature allows users to search for documents which concern a specific country. To do this, simply select a country from the drop-down menu. |
| Search results per page |
Allows users to view 10, 25, 50 or 100 results per page. |
Search by Category and Keywords
This section lets you browse through all documents of the database in the category or the keywords in which they are categorized. To do this, simply click the category or the keyword that fit for what you are looking for.
